No Misty May-Treanor? No problem for Kerri Walsh Jennings!

The 37-year-old keeps serving and blocking her way towards history.Watch on YouTube | Subscribe to SB Nation on YouTube

Though things looked a little iffy against Switzerland, Kerri Walsh Jennings managed to emerge with a perfect record in Olympic play -- 21 matches, 21 wins. Her new partner, April Ross (whom Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor beat in the 2012 gold medal match), was named FIVB’s Best Server in 2011, 2012, and 2015, and the two have looked solid in early competition.

Winning gold in Rio would make Kerri Walsh Jennings the first Olympian in either indoor or beach volleyball to claim that prize four times. In fact, only 20 other people have ever won four golds in the same event in the history of the Games. With the Round of 16 looming Saturday, can Walsh Jennings continue her quest to join that select company? Age and a new partner haven’t slowed her, so the other squads trying to keep her from that mountaintop have a daunting task ahead of them.
