Team USA continues its run through the group stage in women’s volleyball with a matchup against Italy on Friday afternoon. There are only two preliminary games left for the team before the beginning of the knockout stage on Tuesday.

The U.S. looks to topple Italy in the group stage.

The Americans are trying to finally overcome the Brazilians on their home soil this year. In the last two Olympics, the two teams met in the gold medal match. Each time, Brazil came away with the win. Now the host country is looking for its third straight Olympic gold, but the U.S. will likely stand in the way yet again.
If the two teams end up winning their respective groups, they’ll be placed on opposite sides of the bracket for the knockout stage. That could potentially set up a wild gold medal match in Rio if both teams can advance all the way to the final.
Italy is competing in women’s volleyball for the fifth time, having first qualified at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. The team has placed fifth in three consecutive Olympics, so this time the Italians are trying to take the next step and actually get onto the medal podium. An upset of the Americans on Friday would go a long way toward showing the rest of the world that Italy isn’t to be messed around with.
The match will be streamed live on NBC Sports, so here’s how to check it out:
Time: 2 p.m. ET
