Rio 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch NBC’s evening Olympics coverage online

American swimmers Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky go for the gold in prime time on Friday night in Rio.

The two biggest stars in American swimming will look to lower a pair of their own world records Friday night in Rio. Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky will each be trying to earn gold medals in events that they currently hold the world records in.

Pretty much every night, swimming sessions at the 2016 Olympics are must-watch TV, and this slate is no different. NBC Sports will be streaming it all live, so you’ll be able to tune in as some of the greatest American swimmers in history defend their titles.

Phelps will be racing in the men’s 100-meter butterfly final and Ledecky will be in the women’s 800-meter freestyle final. At the 2012 Olympics in London, they each won these respective events.

The world records were set at different times. Phelps set the men’s 100-meter butterfly world record at the 2009 World Championships and Ledecky’s 800-meter freestyle record came earlier this year, when she set it in January at the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series.

So, there’s a long track record of greatness from these two, and Friday night in Rio stands as a chance for each of them to further add to their Olympic résumés. It could be another special night for American swimming, so you’ll definitely want to tune in.

That’s not all on Friday, either. In men’s basketball, Nicolas Batum, Tony Parker and the French national team will take on Venezuela. In women’s volleyball, hosting Brazil faces Korea. And in beach volleyball, there are two Round of 16 matches to finish off the night.

Swimming will be the focus, though, especially for U.S. fans. Here are the key events in Rio on Friday night and accompanying live streams via NBC Sports.
