As expected, the U.S. has dominated the basketball competition in both the men’s and women’s division. Both teams have won all three of their games and while the men’s team had a close call with Australia, the women have destroyed opponents so far. Now it’s time to close out the group stage strong and get ready for the knockout rounds, which always lends themselves to surprises.
Olympic basketball schedule 2016: U.S. men and women looking to stay undefeated
After dominating the group stage early, both the men and women versions of Team USA look to stay in control in their fourth matchup.

The women will face the also undefeated Canada at 2:30 p.m. ET while the men will play Serbia at 6 p.m. ET. Both games will be televised by NBC Sports Network.
While both teams are facing quality competition, it's hard to imagine an upset. The men are facing a Serbian team that has already lost to Australia and France and is not at full strength due to the absences of NBA players Boban Marjanovic and Nemanja Bjelica. They are still a dangerous team that boasts plenty of talent and a winning tradition, but the last time they faced the U.S. they suffered an embarrassing loss in the 2014 FIBA World Cup Finals. There's no reason to think this matchup will be different.
The women will be facing their biggest test of the group stage, as they go against a Canadian squad that has racked up three wins in as many games. Unlike the U.S., however, they have had to work for their victories instead of blowing out opponents. Team USA has won their games by a combined 131 points so far, showing just how ridiculously dominant they truly are. They simply have too many weapons at their disposal to even worry about an untimely slump putting them at risk. Unless something unthinkable happens, they will claim yet another lopsided victory.
As the group stage gets closer to its end, other teams that don’t have the fortune to have the top spot all but secure will battle for positioning. On the men’s side, Australia and France should beat China and Venezuela, respectively, to remain in the second and third position. On the women’s side, Serbia needs to beat China to keep its hopes of advancing to the knockout stage alive while Spain could still be in the running for the second spot in Group B with a win over Senegal.
