Team USA shows no signs of slowing. With another night of gold medals in the pool, the Americans have 24 gold medals, and 60 total. They added 10 medals -- including the 1,000th gold in Team USA history -- on Day 8 of competition, upping their count from 50 as they continue to lead the medal count. The 24 golds is 11 clear of China, who has 13 golds and 41 total, which is good for second overall. Great Britain is third in the medal count with 10 golds and 30 total.

Eight days in, Team USA won its 1,000th gold medal and extended its lead in the medal count.
Swimmers added gold in the 400-meter medley relays, as both the men’s and women’s teams won gold. Michael Phelps won his 23rd gold as the men dominated the 400-meter medley relay. The women added another gold with Simone Manuel anchoring the squad to a win.
Jeff Henderson won gold for Team USA in the men’s long jump, leaping 8.38 meters on his sixth and final jump to vault himself into the gold medal position. Mo Farah of Great Britain helped the UK team climb the leaderboard with a win in the 10,000 meters -- even after he took a spill.
The women’s rowing 8 team won another gold, adding to their legacy of dominance.
