Morning Skate is back after spending the last month lounging on a beach off the coast of Cape Town. Actually, that’s not true. We spent a month trying to convince U.S. authorities that it was perfectly legal and logical to offer a passport to an online newsletter that lacks a corporeal form.
It, uh, didn’t work out, pal.
So here we are! Just in time for V-Day. That’s Vesey Day. As in, the day that coveted Harvard captain Jimmy Vesey becomes a free agent* and can choose where he spends his career.
*OK, he doesn’t become a UFA until tomorrow. But a decision might be made today. Keep your eyes on Twitter.
Here’s some news from the purported finalists.
- Vesey is from the Boston area. So, naturally, Bruins fans are ALL EXCITE. (Is that how the kids say it?)
- Rumors have flown that the Sabres are the favorites, but their Leafy rivals to the north are quick to remind us this morning how those rumors worked out last time.
- Chicago has made a pitch to the Vesey camp. So have the Rangers, and Blueshirt Banter wonders if the team is waiting on Vesey before making other moves.
- Montreal seems like a long shot.
ROY FALLOUT
Patrick Roy suddenly resigned from the Avalanche on Friday. We wrote that his departure leaves the rudderless Avs without direction. Mile High Hockey thinks that his loss is a good thing for the franchise.
