Brazilian police reportedly recommend Ryan Lochte, James Feigen be indicted for false reporting of a crime

Ryan Lochte and his USA swimming teammate James Feigen could face legal consequences in Brazil over the story they told about being robbed. Police in Brazil have recommended Lochte and Feigen be charged with false reporting of a crime, according to ABC News.

The recommendation is the latest in a bizarre story that started with Lochte, Feigen and two other USA swimming team members claiming they were robbed by men posing as police after they were pulled over in their taxi. Lochte later changed his story to say the group was instead held at gunpoint after leaving a gas station bathroom.

Security members at the gas station claim the swimmers vandalized the bathroom and that the swimmers were not robbed, but instead paid for the bathroom damages with cash. Two of the team members, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger, reportedly told police that Lochte fabricated the robbery story.

Video from the gas station appears to mostly confirm Lochte’s story change. The swimmers emerged from the bathroom and were confronted by security. Brazil police also said two of the security guards pointed guns at the swimmers, as Lochte claimed.

Lochte has already returned to the United States while Feigen remains in Brazil.
