A collision in the qualifying race dwindled any hope of Olympic gold but after the United States filed an appeal, they ran on an empty track to make it to the final race.
From the start, the American women did not make it easy for their opponents. But the distance between first and second as the race entered the last leg showed that they belonged with the nation’s best.
There was no collision with Brazil this time. There was only a substantial distance between the other competitors as Tori Bowie sealed the gold medal victory for her, Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix and English Gardner.
