Women led the way for Team USA in 2016

Boxing. Triathlon. Wrestling. Rowing. Hurdles. Cycling. Water Polo. You name an Olympic sport, and there’s a solid chance America’s women won it.Watch on YouTube | Subscribe to SB Nation on YouTube

From Virginia Thrasher taking home the first gold awarded in Rio to Kayla Harrison defending her judo title to Katie Ledecky winning the freestyle at three different distances (setting new world records in two) to Simone Biles triumphing in vault, floor, and all-around on top of a gold medal for the U.S. gymnastics team as a whole, the 2016 Summer Olympics were a major stage for America’s women to shine, big time. Michelle Carter became the first woman to win gold in shot put, and the U.S. women’s basketball team enjoyed an average margin of victory of over 37 points on their way to a stunning sixth consecutive gold medal. A total of 292 women represented the United States in Rio, more than any other country has ever brought to an Olympic Games.

And they TOTALLY CRUSHED IT. Their 25 golds at the end of Saturday are more than all but a few countries participating in the games. We’re gonna go chant “U-S-A” until we lose our voices.
