Everyone is laughing at Derrick Rose for his technically correct Knicks analysis

As it stands, the Knicks technically have a chance to go 82-0. So does every other NBA team.

Nick DePaula of The Vertical has an excellent feature about Derrick Rose and what he’s been up to in the lead up to the 2016-17 NBA season and preparing to play for the Knicks. In the midst of talking about his new shoes and the aftermath of being traded, Rose dropped a strange, but technically true quote about his expectations for the Knicks this upcoming season. It’s strange, because, uh, remember his “superteam” quote from a few weeks ago? Yeah.

“I feel like I’m not done,” Rose said. “It’s a new start. I feel rejuvenated, and when you put all that together, when I step on the floor, I really don’t know what to expect. What I’m doing right now is just preparing myself for something big. I think we have a chance to win every game, and in the league, that’s rare.

I’ll give you a moment to chuckle.

Done? OK, well he’s technically not wrong here. Theoretically, the Knicks have a chance to win every game this season. Here’s the problem: So does every other NBA team — and every sports team that ever existed, before a season started. So, in that sense, it’s really not that rare.

But to be fair, I think what he meant here is that he believes the Knicks are at a level — a Warriors and Kevin Durant-type level — where they could win every game this season, which is admirable. It’s nice that the Knicks have someone who believes in them so much that he’s confident they’ll win every game this season.

Will the Knicks go 82-0 this season? It remains to be se—no. No one’s going 82-0 this season. OK, maybe the Warriors.
