This ludicrous try is proof we all need to be watching more rugby league

The Parramatta Eels of Australia’s NRL pulled off one of the prettiest scores you’re ever likely to see. If you’re one of the millions of people who became hooked on rugby during Rio 2016, then this will serve as an example of just how amazing the game can be when you see it played by professionals.
Let’s count all the ludicrous things that happen in this one 14-second clip:
- The first player tackled only has the vaguest knowledge of where his teammate is, and still makes the offload.
- The second player only has a split second to offload the ball himself after being spun around in a tackle.
- Player three fakes the pass to his left before delivering a dart to his teammate in the open.
- The receiver has the ball in his hands for less than a second before spreading it out wide and finding another teammate on the wing.
- In 1.5 seconds, the winger realizes he can’t make it to the corner without being tackled out of bounds. He soccer kicks the ball off the side of his boot right in between two defenders.
- A player in space catches the ball in the open and scores with nobody around him.
In total, the play takes 14 seconds and seven different players controlled the ball. It’s absolutely stunning to watch.
