Led by a 25-point performance from Kevin Durant, Team USA crushed China, 119-62. That’s a 57 (!) point deficit for all you who can’t be bothered with math. As for the ‘92 Dream Team? They won by an average of 43.7 points per game, claiming their opener against Angola by a whopping 68 points.
Coach K’s present day squad was just as effective on the other side of the ball, forcing more turnovers (24) than China made baskets (20).
If we’re forced to say that any other team has a chance (and we mean that strictly in the Lloyd Christmas sense), it’s got to be Spain. A 12-1 favorite to take home gold, Spain boasts seven NBA players on its roster and lost to the United States by 11 points in 2008 and seven points in 2012 to capture silver. So in terms of a chance, think “Samsonite” slivers.
