Watch the Williams sisters lose their first ever Olympic doubles match

An upset in Rio marks the first time Serena and Venus Williams have lost a doubles match at the Olympics.

Serena and Venus Williams have long been a force in Olympic doubles. The duo entered Rio with an unbeaten record in the Olympics, including gold medals in 2000, 2008 and 2012. Only in 2004, when Serena had to pull out due to injury, did another duo win during the Williams’ reign.

Well, until now. In the first round on Sunday in Rio, the Williams sisters were shocked by Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic for their first-ever Olympic doubles loss. It’s a major upset, and ends the Williams’ doubles run far earlier than anyone expected.
