A friend is there to pick you up when you’re down. Catch you when you fall — and prevent you from slamming head-first into the end zone. That last one might not be so common, but Jason Peters became the ultimate friend to Ryan Mathews on Sunday.
Mathews got up-ended while diving into the end zone at what appeared to be an odd angle. There’s a chance his momentum could have carried him over into a relatively safe roll, but he wasn’t rotating quite fast enough. Odds are he would have crashed hard into the ground, with his shoulder and neck taking the brunt of the punishment.
Jason Peters didn’t allow that to happen. He is a true friend. Daresay, he’s an angel.
