Aaron Rodgers led what could be a back-breaking drive against the Lions, marching the Packers 81 yards on 10 plays to score a touchdown and take a 23-14 lead (Mason Crosby missed the extra point). Rodgers faced near-disaster twice on the drive, once on first down and again on third-and-goal, and coolly handled both situations to deliver big plays.
Aaron Rodgers escapes disaster twice to throw back-breaking touchdown strike vs. Lions
Aaron Rodgers is tormenting the Lions at Ford Field once again.
First, here’s first-and-10 from the Lions’ 44-yard line.
A fumble there and the Lions would have had terrific field position for Matthew Stafford and company to go to work. The Lions’ receiving corps has done an outstanding job finding holes in a banged-up Packers secondary. Instead, the Packers kept the ball, AND gained seven yards before Davante Adams was pushed out of bounds.
Then came the touchdown play, which was pure brilliance.
The Packers’ offensive line deserves a lot of credit for keeping Rodgers clean for what felt like minutes in the backfield. The throw and catch are the stars of this play, though. Rodgers chucked the ball on the run to find a diving Geronimo Allison in the back of the end zone.
If the Packers can hold off yet another Lions’ fourth quarter comeback, they’ll have Rodgers to thank.
