What should the Knicks do with Derrick Rose now?

Can the Knicks really keep Rose around, or do they need to move on? We discuss a strange saga in New York.

The Knicks played the Pelicans on Monday night without Derrick Rose. He was not only missing from the team’s lineup, he was straight-up missing. Rose returned to the team on Tuesday and said he had a family emergency. The Knicks responded by fining, although not suspending, their wayward guard, and an uneasy detente seems to have been reached. Rose said that he needed his space on Monday and that everyone was now on the same page.

This would be strange, although very Knick-like, if not for a few other important details hanging over the franchise. Rose is a free agent after this year and the former MVP would like to be paid like a current MVP. That’s despite the fact that his contributions have been in decline and he was benched for the fourth quarters of their previous two games.

Oy.

So, what should the Knicks do? Let him walk and cut their losses, or double down on what has already been a bad bet? This is a question because this is the Knicks.

We discuss all of that on this week’s Drive & Kick podcast, plus:

  • Are the Paul Millsap trade rumors really dead or just taking a nap? Are the Hawks rebuilding or trying to contend? Is Kyle Korver the latest David Griffin heist? Join us as we go in search of ...
  • Speaking of questions without answers, Anthony Bennett?
  • Joel Embiid thinks the Sixers can make the playoffs and Gonz naturally wants to believe this fairy tale.
  • We run through a random list of our top big men and Flanns makes the case for Marc Gasol. Stop sleeping on Gasol, people.
  • We finish up with a couple of trade hypotheticals. Apologies in advance for the sound effects.
