The Pittsburgh Steelers are fighting a flu bug that has made its way through their locker room leading up to their game on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Steelers are dealing with flu bug prior to game vs. Patriots
It doesn’t seem to have inflicted any of their stars.

Fowler says that tight end Ladarius Green missed Thursday’s practice. Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, kicker Chris Boswell, center B.J. Finney, and quarterback Zach Mettenberger all missed Wednesday’s practice. Wideout Cobi Hamilton told Fowler that up to 15 people in the facility suffered “a setback.”
Recently, Boswell is arguably the most important of the aforementioned players. He’s coming off of a week in which he set an NFL record for field goals in a playoff game with six.
Le’Veon Bell missed practice, but for personal reasons.
Mike Tomlin sounded pretty happy to have stayed away from the illness (so far). “I’m just thankful that I’ve stayed out of the line of fire,” said Tomlin. “We’re not making excuses. There won’t be. We’ll be there, we’ll be ready to play, this is just part of normal things that happen over the course of a season”
It appears that the Steelers might not be the only ones fighting an illness. Tom Brady looked and sounded sick at his press conference on Wednesday, but reassured reporters saying, “I’m good.”
It doesn’t seem like Martellus Bennett has a clear idea of how Brady is, either.
Luckily for both teams — whether Brady is actually under the weather or not — there’s still time to rest up and get better before Sunday.
The Steelers have already seen players get over it, or at least improve to the point where they can suit up again. Heyward-Bey, Boswell, Finney, and Mettenberger all made it back to practice on Thursday.
Needless to say, between the Antonio Brown Facebook live video, and a flu outbreak, it’s been quite the week in the Steelers’ locker room.
