The Yankees continued their undefeated postseason streak with a 5-0 win over the Astros in Game 5 of the ALCS. That’s three straight wins for them, to come back from being two games down in the series to lead it three games to two.
Yankees beat Astros in Game 5 to get within one win of World Series
Their undefeated record at home stays intact.

New York didn’t get a lot of resistance in its win, with the Astros only registering three hits the entire game and
Yankees scored their first postseason run against Dallas Keuchel ever, and then tacked on three more against him after that for good measure. Keuchel, who had far better results against the Yankees in Game 1, got through 4 2⁄3 innings and let up seven hits in addition to those four runs. He struck out eight batters and only walked one, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Yankees off the board.
Right off the bat in the first inning, the Yankees put Starlin Castro on base and then Greg Bird singled to bring him all the way home for a 1-0 first-inning lead. Aaron Judge, who seems to have found his offense again this postseason, doubled in Brett Gardner with a juuuust fair hit into left field to make it 2-0.
The Yankees only lost 18 games all year when they scored first.
Even when the Astros thought they were being smart about how they handled the Yankees, it seemed to backfire. In the fifth inning, they decided to pitch around Judge (without actually intentionally walking him) only for Gary Sanchez to hit a single right behind him to score a run and make things 3-0.
Fellow young star (although not as young as Judge or Sanchez) Didi Gregorius then brought Judge home to make the score 4-0. With a Sanchez solo home run in the seventh, the game was all but sealed for a 5-0 New York win.
In the top of the ninth, facing Tommy Kahnle, the Astros got Carlos Correa all the way to third base but couldn’t bring him home. Alex Bregman lined out to end the game and the Yankees were officially up 3-2 in the series.
Only one win away from the World Series, they’ll go back to Texas to try and close things out and advance to play either the Cubs or Dodgers.
