No. 2 Penn State lost a game-of-the-year-so-far heartbreaker at No. 6 Ohio State on Saturday. The final score was 39-38 and PSU’s first loss of the season.
Head coach of 4-5 Pitt trolls 7-1 rival Penn State after PSU falls to Ohio State
The Pitt-Penn State rivalry continues to be a somewhat petty delight.

One of Penn State’s rivals is Pitt, its southwestern neighbor. Earlier this season, Penn State beat Pitt by 19. On Saturday, the Panthers beat Virginia to move to 4-5.
Anyway, here’s Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi at 7:13 p.m. ET:
I bring up that timestamp because it’s right smack in the middle of Penn State finishing its collapse against Ohio State. The game ended at 7:17 p.m. ET, and Narduzzi’s tweet came just after Penn State lost possession on a fourth-down failure that clinched it for the Buckeyes. Pitt’s game against Virginia had ended at 3:28 p.m. ET, so I will not hear any arguments that this was coincidental timing.
After Penn State beat Pitt earlier this year, PSU coach James Franklin compared the Panthers to lowly Akron. That was part of a broader strategy to brand the Nittany Lions as a team that competes with programs more prestigious than Pitt.
Penn State and Pitt have a fascinating rivalry dynamic with Penn State assuming the role of overrated elitists (in Pitt’s eyes) and Pitt assuming the role of scrappy little brother we no longer carer about (in Penn State’s eyes).
It’s silly as hell that Pitt would troll Penn State during this of all seasons. But this is a silly rivalry to start with, and college football is a silly sport.
