The Minnesota Lynx are the new champions after defeating the Los Angeles Sparks, 85-76, in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals Wednesday night. That means Maya Moore’s running streak of winning a championship every other year of her basketball career remains intact.
Maya Moore literally can’t stop winning championships
The Minnesota Lynx star has never lost a championship back to back. Not even in high school.

Moore’s been winning rings since she was in high school
Dating back to her playing days at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia, Maya Moore has been accustomed to winning at the highest level. She won state championships in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons before committing to UConn.
That winning pedigree traveled with her to the next level, where she led the Huskies to back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.
Moore then entered the WNBA and became a five-time All-Star and the 2014 Most Valuable Player. She led the Lynx to championship rings in 2011, 2013 and 2015.
That streak was in jeopardy this year
The Lynx fell behind 2-1 in the Finals to the same Los Angeles Sparks team that defeated them for the championship last season. Had Minnesota lost Game 4 on the road, Moore’s streak would have ended right then.
The Lynx, though, swiped that must-win game in Los Angeles thanks to a group effort from their core four. Then, with the championship ring hanging in the balance, Minnesota dominated the glass to beat the Sparks in a decisive Game 5.
Maya Moore picked up her fourth WNBA ring on Wednesday, but her string of winning championships started well before her pro playing days. And thanks to Minnesota’s big win in Game 5, that streak lives to see another year.
