The Toronto Raptors have signed 24-year-old wing Norman Powell to a four-year deal worth $42 million, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The $42 million extension was the maximum for Powell, who is coming off an impressive sophomore season in Toronto.

The Raptors guard averaged 8.4 points per game last season, but he improved in the playoffs to the tune of 11.7 points on 44 percent three-point shooting, including a 25-point outburst in Game 5 of Toronto’s first-round series against Milwaukee.
Powell is projected to replace DeMarre Carroll, who the Raptors traded to Brooklyn in a salary dump, as a two-way wing and ostensibly a core member of Toronto’s future.
The Raptors drafted Powell 46th overall in the 2015 NBA draft, and due to the league’s new collective bargaining agreement, he was eligible for the same four-year extension Josh Richardson signed with the Miami Heat this summer.
