5 ways the Jaguars’ overtime win against the Chargers was completely wacky

What a finish.

The Jaguars beat the Chargers in overtime after a dramatic, turnover-filled fourth quarter.

The Chargers had a 17-14 lead at the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars were driving, and Bortles tried to hit Allen Hurns. The pass was picked off by the Chargers’ Tre Boston.

The Chargers fumble

So the Chargers had a chance to put the game away. It’s not the easiest task against the Jaguars’ defense, but all the Chargers had to do was run out the clock. Austin Ekeler fumbled, and it was recovered by Tashaun Gipson.

It looked like a scoop and score and a win for the Chargers. But officials ruled Gipson down by contact on review. Still, it got the Jaguars the ball back and another shot to win it or at least tie it up and send it to overtime.

Blake Bortles throws a second pick

Except, Blake Bortles.

Bortles’ pass was intended for Marqise Lee, but Boston once again picked it off. It was Bortles’ second interception of the day. The two picks happened within 30 seconds of each other.

Josh Lambo ties it up

But the Jaguars’ defense forced a Chargers punt. Bortles and the Jaguars got one more chance to win it or send the game to overtime. Josh Lambo’s kick was good, and he tied the game up against the Chargers, who cut him during the preseason.

That tied the game 17-17 with a few seconds left to play, and the game went to overtime.

A.J. Bouye picks off Philip Rivers

The extra period was not nearly as thrilling as the fourth quarter, until A.J. Bouye picked off Philip Rivers with just over five minutes left to play.

Bouye, one of the Jaguars’ best free agent pickups this offseason, ran it all the way back to the Chargers 2-yard line. A flag on Aaron Colvin brought it back to the Chargers 17, but all the Jags needed was a field goal to get the win. It was Josh Lambo’s chance to shine again on a 35-yard attempt.

Josh Lambo kicks the game-winner

Chargers coach Anthony Lynn iced Lambo. Then refs called a delay of game on the Chargers, which made it a 30-yard attempt. That made all the difference, because the Chargers almost blocked Lambo’s kick.

He was close enough that the low attempt made it through the uprights.

The Jaguars improved to 6-3 with the win.
