Rudy Gobert will miss four to six weeks after Dion Waiters fell into his right knee during a Jazz loss to the Miami Heat.

Waiters fell into Gobert after a scramble for a rebound turned into him chasing a loose ball. The Heat guard seemed to lose his balance before going into Gobert’s knee.

Gobert missed Saturday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets before having it ruled as a contusion by Utah’s medical staff, according to a report from The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

The 7’1 defensive player of the year runner up is averaging 13.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game for the Jazz this season.

After the injury, Gobert was miffed by the way Waiters crashed into his knee. He told the Deseret News that Waiters just “dove into my knee.”

“It feels better than it looked on the video,” he said. “I think it was a dirty play, but no matter what the most important thing is to keep getting better and to win tomorrow.”

Gobert said he suffered a similar injury to his MCL and said his knee popped inside and then back out. After the game, he took to Twitter to express his displeasure.

The Jazz are off to a rough start this season and are now 6-7 on the year. The hits keep coming for the team with Joe Johnson out until the end of November and Dante Exum out indefinitely.

The Jazz will have to rely on Derrick Favors to hold the frontcourt down in Gobert’s absence. This certainly isn’t the start they wanted to see after losing Gordon Hayward to the Celtics this summer.
