Kyle Shanahan gets a 3-cup Gatorade bath after the 49ers’ first win

You don’t break out the whole cooler of Gatorade in this situation.

How do you celebrate your first win of the season when it comes in Week 10 against a terrible Giants team? By dousing your head coach in Gatorade, of course.

But there’s no reason to do the whole cooler full of Gatorade. That’s reserved for bigger wins against more worthy opponents. So the Niners showered head coach Kyle Shanahan with three cups of Gatorade instead.

C.J. Beathard had a career day and the 49ers put up 186 yards on the ground against a Giants defense that looked like they’ve given up on the season. Beathard threw an 83-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Goodwin to take a 10-6 lead midway through the second quarter, and the Niners ran away with it after that point.

The Niners defense didn’t look sharp early, but rebounded once they were playing with a healthy lead. They consistently pressured Eli Manning and kept tight coverage on the Giants’ receivers.

It was a performance, and a win, worth celebrating. And the Niners may be able to justify dumping a whole cooler of Gatorade on Shanahan if they manage to beat the Seahawks after San Francisco’s bye next week.
