DeMar DeRozan dapping up the air after he makes free throws is the NBA’s funniest ritual

DeRozan is pals with Casper, the friendly ghost.

NBA players are superstitious. They have routines for pregame daps, jump ball stretches, pregame meals and free throw shots. So it isn’t weird that DeMar DeRozan has to give someone a five when he shoots his free throws — but he even does it with no one there.

Tonight, against the Rockets, we saw it again.

DeRozan, buddy, WYD? There’s no one there.

This isn’t the first time he’s done it, either. He had an episode last week where he dapped up no one and casually jogged back on defense like it was a normal possession for him.

I think it’s safe to assume that DeRozan is dapping up some ghost pal of his that we can’t see. But which ghost pal is it? Maybe it’s Casper. Maybe it’s that paper ghost from SpongeBob. Who knows?

I understand superstition, but this is just weird. Maybe he sees something we’re not seeing? Maybe DeRozan is the second coming of the kid for the sixth sense. Either way, it’s probably a bit weird to have ghost friends. Hopefully they’re chill.

But whatever. Free throws are free throws and points are points. Superstition is always a weird thing, but it’s a thing. And the Raptors are pretty good, so it all works out.
