Kyrie Irving gives away jersey, sneakers to U.S. soldiers after scoring 25 vs. Nets

It was a pretty great day for Irving, and an even better one for two servicewomen who got to watch the game courtside.

Kyrie Irving gave away his Boston Celtics jersey and shoes to two U.S. Army soldiers who were in the crowd during the Brooklyn Nets’ Military Appreciation night, part of the NBA’s Hoops For Troops initiative.

The NBA’s Twitter page caught the genuinely awesome moment here.

As did the Celtics.

A Getty photographer caught up with the two soldiers not long after to showcase their gear, too.

The game against the Nets was Irving’s first one back since a minor facial fracture that caused him to miss Sunday’s showcase. He played the game in a mask, despite really hating it.

Now if only Irving had given away his mask. Now that would be a special gift from the new Boston Celtics star, and I can’t imagine there are many NBA game-worn masks floating on Ebay. (In fact, I just checked and there are none, which can’t really be a surprise.)
