Joel Embiid absolutely shined in the 76ers’ 115-109 win over the Lakers on Wednesday night. In fact, Philly’s star big man shined so bright, he scorched the record books.

Embiid scored 46 points on 14-of-20 shooting, grabbed 15 rebounds, dished out seven assists and swatted seven shots in the Sixers’ win.

Only James Harden, Gilbert Arenas, DeMarcus Cousins, Josh Howard, Adrian Dantley and Willy Burton have ever scored as many points on as few shot attempts, according to Basketball-Reference, and no player has ever scored more than 42 points on fewer than 20 shot attempts while also posting 15 rebounds, seven blocks and seven assists.

In fact, only Artis Gilmore and Wilt Chamberlain have posted games near Embiid’s, both notching 42-point games on 18 or fewer shot attempts, according to Basketball-Reference, along with 15 or more rebounds and seven or more assists. Both Gilmore and Chamberlain have their names etched in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Embiid also became one of only 26 players in NBA history to record seven blocks and seven assists in a game. That list also includes Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kareem Abdul-Jabaar, Kevin Garnett, Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson.

Embiid only played in 31 games last season due to multiple injuries, but his continued incredible play in his second year is exactly why the 76ers have trusted the process for so long. Now, Philadelphia and its fans will reap the results as Embiid and rookie Ben Simmons revitalize a 76ers franchise that has been in the doldrums for years.
