Giants decide RB Shane Vereen should throw a pass in the red zone. He threw an interception

Ben McAdoo is in full YOLO mode.

The New York Giants have had a bad couple of weeks, and they couldn’t help themselves on Sunday against the Chiefs with a running back throwing an interception.

After Shane Vereen took a pitch, he wound up for a pass, and threw it straight to the Chiefs’ Daniel Sorensen:

Up to that point, Eli Manning had been 5-of-5 passing. It was also Vereen’s first career pass. It’s also the first time a Giant other than Manning has thrown a pick in a while:

I suppose Ben McAdoo thought it would be okay to try and pull off more trickery after successfully converting on a fake punt earlier in the drive.

At least he got that vote of confidence earlier this week, right?

Giants owner John Mara and chairman Steve Tisch released the following statement on McAdoo earlier in the week, via Ian Rapoport:

”Ben McAdoo is our head coach and has our support. We are in the midst of an extremely disappointing season. Our performance this year, particularly the past two weeks, is inexcusable and frustrating. While we appreciate that our fans are unhappy with what has occurred, nobody is more upset than we are.

“Our plan is to do what we have always done, which is to not offer a running commentary on the season. It is our responsibility to determine the reasons for our poor performance and at the end of the year, we will evaluate the 2017 season in its entirety and make a determination on how we move forward.”

Hang in there, coach. Though plays like this don’t help your case.
