Jay Cutler out with concussion vs. Buccaneers, replaced by Matt Moore

The Dolphins will again turn to Matt Moore.

Jay Cutler stayed in the locker room after halftime and didn’t come out for the second half to be evaluated for a concussion, the Miami Dolphins announced. That means the team will turn to Matt Moore to try to come back from a 20-7 deficit against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The quarterback was ruled out for the remainder of the game later in the third quarter.

Moore, 33, has been a long time backup for the Dolphins, and was called in to duty earlier in the year when Cutler suffered a rib injury. He started one game for Miami but struggled, finishing with just 176 passing yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in a 40-0 loss to the Ravens.

What does this mean for the Dolphins? The team is already No. 32 in the NFL in scoring and Cutler finished the first half with three interceptions, so it doesn’t seem like things could get much worse. However, Moore’s previous time at the helm suggests it might, and the Dolphins definitely shouldn’t be optimistic that a comeback is coming.
