Astros parade 2017: Date, time, and what we know so far about the World Series celebration

The Houston Astros will celebrate their historic World Series title Friday, Nov. 3, with a parade to city hall. The party is sure to be a big one. The Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games Wednesday night, 5-1, to cap a series that will be remembered for a long time. The Astros won their first ever World Series title in the process.

According to Houston’s ABC affiliate, the parade will begin at 2 p.m. CT (3 p.m. ET) at the intersection of Smith and Lamar. City workers will begin shutting down streets at 1 p.m. Houston mayor Sylvester Turner made a statement to go along with the announcement of the celebration.

“It’s a true privilege to proudly host this magnificent salute to our hometown team that has earned history,” said Turner. “As we bounce back from Hurricane Harvey, we are more than ready to welcome our heroes home in proper form.”

The Astros will have a tough time living up to the precedent that the Chicago Cubs set last year when they ended a 108-year title drought (though, no, it wasn’t the biggest gathering in human history). If any city can do it, however, it may be Houston. The Astros were the perfect fit for the city at a tough time in its history. The team resonated with Houstonians in a way few teams possibly can.
