The National Dog Show is a Thanksgiving tradition, airing each year on NBC following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The event, hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, includes seven different groups of competition: herding, hound, non-sporting, sporting, terrier, toy, and working breeds.

The National Dog Show is almost here, and we have all you need to know to keep up with the competition.

On Thursday, the NBC broadcast will begin at 12 p.m. ET, and will also be available through live streaming in participating markets via NBC Sports.
The winners from each of the seven groups will earn the Best in Breed award, and will advance to the group stage, where one dog from each pool will be chosen to compete for the Best in Show award, the top honor at the competition.
There hasn’t been a repeat winner for a breed since 2011 and 2012, when the Wire Fox Terrier won the shows. The reigning champion is a Greyhound named Gia, who won the hound group to advance. Prior to that, the champion was a Skye Terrier named Charlie.
The show actually took place the weekend of November 18-19, but the results are always withheld for the event on Thanksgiving Day.
