Los Angeles Chargers kicker Nick Novak started the game by missing a field goal on the team’s opening offensive possession, but a back injury may have been the reason. He’s questionable to return and it had the potential to be a serious problem for the team, because the Chargers clearly didn’t trust emergency option Drew Kaser with the job.
Nick Novak has an injury and the Chargers have turned to emergency option Drew Kaser
Drew Kaser missed the kicking net while warming up on the sideline.

After a lengthy drive got the Chargers in chip shot range for Kaser, the team’s second-year punter, the team instead opted to go for a fourth down with 13 yards to gain. A look at Kaser’s warmup on the sideline explains why.
Yikes. That’s a clean miss of the kicking net, y’all.
Novak returned from the locker room to warm up on the sideline, and gave kicking another shot but shanked an extra point in the third quarter. When Kaser finally got a chance to kick one, he actually drilled it. Order was restored when he missed his next two tries, though.
Kaser was a sixth-round pick in 2016 and was never been called in to kick a field goal or extra point in his two NFL seasons before Thursday. He didn’t do it either during his four seasons at Texas A&M.
