3 winners and 3 losers from the Steelers’ 31-28 win over the Packers

If you thought the Steelers were going to roll right over the Aaron Rodgers-less Packers, you were wrong. Brett Hundley held his own, and the Packers lost, 31-28.

The Steelers struck first with a 1-yard pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Xavier Grimble. The PAT attempt went wide, but Pittsburgh had a 6-0 lead.

Green Bay didn’t take long to answer. The Packers scored 14 unanswered points in the first quarter. The Steelers answered with a score and a successful two-point conversion to tie it up heading into the half. The Packers scored again on an absolute dime from Hundley to Davante Adams. But momentum started to shift for the Steelers late in the third.

It started with a missed 57-yard field goal for the Packers, followed up with a 1-yard touchdown pass from Roethlisberger to Antonio Brown. The Steelers defense pinned their ears back and came after Hundley. The Packers defense created opportunities with a forced fumble and a pick, but the offense couldn’t turn those chances into points.

Hundley hung in there and led a scoring drive to tie things up 28-28. The Packers defense came up big and got the ball back in Hundley’s hands with a stop. The Steelers forced a punt, and they gave Roethlisberger 17 seconds and two timeouts to try and get the win. The Steelers got into position to try a 53-yard field goal. The kick was good, and the Steelers got the win.

My goodness. This one defies description.

He didn’t win the game, but he played well. Hundley finished with 245 yards and three touchdowns, including this beauty to Randall Cobb:

He hit Davante Adams in the third quarter, and Adams burned the Steelers secondary to a crisp on his way to the end zone.

Despite taking four sacks, Hundley’s poise never wavered. He led a 12-play, 77-yard drive in the fourth quarter to tie things up 28-28.

Hundley kept things together on offense, but the defense deserves credit, too. It picked off Roethlisberger twice and forced and recovered a fumble.

Allison and Williams got into it after a play, and Williams butted his head up against Allison’s helmet. And their facemasks got stuck together:

It kind of puts a damper on trying to act tough when you’re all of a sudden physically stuck to the person you’re having words with.

Mike McCarthy is going to wish he had this one back. It gave the Steelers great field position, which they turned into an Antonio Brown touchdown to tie the game:

It started a swing in the Steelers’ favor.

The star rookie wide receiver is sidelined with a hamstring injury. And celebrations just aren’t the same without him:
