Whiteside injured his knee on Wednesday against the New York Knicks. He was unable to finish the game because of what the Heat described as “knee soreness.” The injury comes at a bad time for the Heat, with the team falling to 10-11 on the season.
While out, Whiteside will rehab the knee in what the Heat are calling a strength and conditioning program. The Miami big man is averaging 14.9 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. He ranked third in the league overall in rebounds and 10th in the league in blocks.
The Heat could possibly lean on their rookie Bam Abedayo to replace Whiteside in the meantime and may play James Johnson more minutes at center.
