Tony Romo will reach a new milestone in his broadcasting career on Sunday. He’ll be in the booth when the team he spent his entire career with, the Dallas Cowboys, host the Kansas City Chiefs.
Chiefs vs. Cowboys 2017: Tony Romo is calling Dallas’ game for the first time on Sunday
Hearing Romo predict plays for the team he spent his whole career with should be fun.

Why should we be excited about Romo calling a Cowboys game?
The Cowboys signed Romo as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Illinois in 2003. He fractured his back during the 2016 preseason and was replaced by fourth-round rookie Dak Prescott. Prescott was fantastic in his first year, helped along by an incredible season from fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott.
Prescott went on to earn the Offensive Rookie of the Year nod. He was so good that the Cowboys had no choice but to move on from Romo. In the offseason, Romo decided to retire and enter the broadcast booth. He’s got natural talent and charisma, and he seems to genuinely enjoy it. All’s well that ends well.
Why is this the perfect game for Romo to call?
Kansas City is 6-2, and Romo has called both of the team’s losses. The Chiefs’ first loss came in Week 6 to the Steelers. They lost again the following week to the Raiders in a 31-30 heartbreaker that came down to the wire. Romo’s calls made a thriller of a game even more fun to watch.
It should be no different this week. After a slow start, the Cowboys have won their last two games by a combined score of 73-29 and are sitting at 4-3. On Friday, Elliott was issued a stay on his suspension for this week’s game, so he’ll be able to take the field against the Chiefs’ 28th-ranked run defense.
What can we expect Romo to talk about during Chiefs vs. Cowboys?
Imagine how fun it will be to listen to Romo excitedly break down plays for a team he knows as well as the Cowboys.
Romo is so good at predicting plays and describing what teams are going to do that he may actually tip the Cowboys’ hand to the Chiefs. At least that’s what our friends over at SB Nation’s Chiefs site, Arrowhead Pride, are hoping.
Prescott hopes Romo is a little more tight-lipped than usual when calling this game.
“Hopefully he doesn’t call out and guess too many of our plays,” Prescott said, via Jon Machota of the Dallas News. “He’ll still be very familiar with them. Hopefully he can stay away from that this week.”
There is one potential drawback for Romo, aside from possibly giving away too much information about the Cowboys during the game. He hasn’t faced much criticism in this new phase of his career, but that may shift a little this week. If Romo seems complimentary of the Cowboys or critical of the Chiefs, fans may think he’s just being a homer.
Prescott thinks Romo will be objective about his former teammates.
“I kind of expect him to be (critical),” Prescott said. “I hope he is.”
The insight Romo developed over his career helps him basically predict the future when he’s doing play-by-play. Romo’s familiarity with the Cowboys should make this one an especially fun ride for viewers.
