Anthony Davis appeared to be seriously injured after leaving Friday’s game against the Utah Jazz with a left groin injury, but a subsequent MRI was negative and he is only listed as day-to-day, the Pelicans announced.

Davis instead has a “left abductor strain” in his groin and is listed as day-to-day.
Davis was diagnosed with a “left abductor strain,” and while he missed New Orleans’ game against Portland on Friday and will also sit out against Golden State on Monday, this is a huge sigh of relief for Pelicans fans.
Davis suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of the Pelicans’ game against the Jazz. It was concerning that Davis couldn’t put weight on the leg and collapsed without contact on an otherwise innocuous play under the basket.

It’s possible Davis previously injured himself on this play, though.
Davis has a long history of injuries, but he played 75 games last season while staying relatively healthy.
If he misses any significant amount of time, it would be an awful blow for a New Orleans Pelicans team that is currently the seventh seed in the Western Conference. The Pelicans have dealt with relentless injuries over the past few seasons, but were finally off to a relatively clean start to the season.
The good news is that Davis’ injury is less serious than it seemed.
