Sometimes, you make ‘em. Sometimes, you miss ‘em. And sometimes, you have to miss ‘em on purpose. That was the situation Kent Bazemore and the Atlanta Hawks were in down two to the New York Knicks with just seconds left on the clock on Sunday.
Kent Bazemore wins award for worst intentionally missed free throw in NBA history

Bazemore was at the line and made his first free throw. But with no remaining timeouts and fewer than five seconds left in regulation, he had no choice but to miss the second foul shot on purpose and hope that his teammates could grab a rebound and go for the game-winner.
Instead, he made it on Shaqtin’ A Fool.
Of course Twitter lost its collective cool:
Like Clyde Frazier said, intentionally missing a free throw is a lot harder than it looks. You spend your whole life trying to make these shots, only to be vaulted into a scenario where you have to miss on purpose. And then you can’t just miss; you have to miss a certain way.
But dammit, Kent Bazemore, you had one job, and one job only: Hit the rim, big fella. Hit the rim.
Knicks 111, Hawks 107
