The Carolina Panthers turned to Derek Anderson against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Cam Newton went down with an injury in the second quarter. After staying down on the field, the quarterback jogged off under his own power and then looked like he was in pain as he walked off the injury on the sideline.

Cam Newton stayed down and then jogged off the field in the second quarter.


Newton suffered the injury on a run in the red zone.
Anderson replaced Newton to finish the drive, throwing one pass to the sideline that was ruled out of bounds. The Panthers settled for a short field goal on the next play to take a 6-3 lead over the Buccaneers.
After the Panthers defense forced a Buccaneers three-and-out, Newton returned to the field for the next drive.
Carolina would clinch a playoff berth with a victory over Tampa Bay and keep alive a hope to win the NFC South crown.
