Happy holidays and Happy New Year from the Disrespectful Blocks of the Week staff. By staff, I mean myself. Hope your holiday season is going great. Even though it’s the holidays, there is still football, which means there are disrespectful blocks. And with that, here we go.
Patriots OL Shaq Mason proves that a legal peel back block can be done
Retired NFL lineman Geoff Schwartz brings us a holiday edition of Disrespectful Blocks of the Week.

A blind side or peel back block is still legal in the NFL. It’s legal if you don’t hit the player in the head or neck area. Recently we have seen players get suspended for illegal blind side blocks for making contact with the helmet. On this first play in this video, we see Patriots OL Shaq Mason getting a great legal peel back block on a screen:
In fact, you can see how screens are blocked in my new X’s and O’s video. Check it out.
Ribs aren’t a food that you commonly see during the holiday season, but here the left side of the Titans OL gets a full slab of ribs. Taylor Lewan’s guy drops, and he comes back inside and destroys the defender. I love it!
Y’all know how much I enjoy when non-offensive linemen get onto this reel. In the video, we get a Chiefs special teamer, Terrance Smith, executing a perfect block on a kickoff return. He gets in great position, gets his hands inside, uses good body position, runs his feet, and earns himself a knockdown.
Lastly, we end with the Vikings rookie center, Pat Elflein, who has brought some toughness to the Vikings OL, along with free agent signings Mike Remmers and Riley Reiff. This OL gets after it. Here Elflein has a back block, and the NT starts to work over top, so he finishes him. Nice job, rookie.
