Stephen Curry injures problematic right ankle vs. Pelicans

Curry’s ankle injury is another blow to an ankle that delayed his emergence as a star years ago.

If you’re a Warriors fan, it probably still isn’t safe to exhale just yet.

In the final quarter of Golden State’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, Stephen Curry tried to jump a passing lane and ended up rolling his right ankle. The Warriors have ruled it a sprained ankle, according to ESPN’s Nick Friedell. It is the same ankle he has injured and had surgery on in the past.

Curry walked off the floor under his own power, but he asked to come out the game. The Warriors announced his X-ray was negative, which is a good thing, but the video looked bad enough.

To make matters worse, he left the locker room on crutches.

Curry will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

This is another chapter in Curry’s injury history

Steph Curry was a star at Davidson College but his NBA career was briefly put on hold due to injury.

Curry sprained his right ankle several times in the 2010-11 season and eventually had surgery to repair the ligaments that were torn as a result. He returned for the start of the 2011-12 season, but sprained his right ankle twice in the first half of the season before straining a tendon in his right foot.

The slew of injuries required a second surgery in a 13-month span, and he would only play in 26 games in the 2011-12 season.

Since then, Curry has bounced back

The Warriors guard has played in at least 78 games every season since his second surgery. He won back-to-back MVP awards and became the first-ever unanimous MVP while shattering three-point records left and right. It’s amazing what good health did for the star guard.

That’s why this injury could be a devastating setback. Curry severely rolled the ankle on the same foot that has required two surgeries, the same ankle that prolonged his prime. Thankfully it’s only a sprain.

But remember: it was only a sprain two times before he needed surgery a few years ago.
