Things were not going well for the Wichita State Shockers in their matchup Tuesday night with South Dakota State. The sixth-ranked Shockers struggled with the Jackrabbits in the first half, falling behind 50-42 by the halftime break, despite the home team converting almost 55 percent of its attempts from the field. South Dakota shot a blistering 50 percent (including 48 percent from three) against Wichita’s usually stout defense in the first half.
Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall literally cleared his bench to head to the locker room
He was clearly unhappy with the Shockers’ first-half performance.

WSU head coach Gregg Marshall was, uhh, not happy.
The Wichita State players have a definite “oh this is going to be bad” vibe going on, but whatever Coach Marshall said to his team worked. WSU shot just shy of 56 percent from the field in the second half and clamped down defensively on South Dakota, holding the Jackrabbits to 35 percent.
Landry Shamet led the Shockers with 21 points — 12 in the second half — and got help in the form of 20 points from Shaq Morris as Wichita State rallied to win 95-85.
Maybe Marshall has a motivational speaking engagement gig in his future. Just don’t stand in his way.
