If you thought the second-ranked Kansas Jayhawks were invincible, you thought wrong.

LaGerald Vick went off for 28 points and seven assists on Wednesday night, and Udoka Azubuike added 10 points and nine rebounds. But the Jayhawks were surprisingly no match for the Washington Huskies, who saw four players score in double digits to secure a 74-65 road win.

Yes, the Huskies have a new head coach in Mike Hopkins, and after finishing 9-22 last season, Washington in 7-2 to start this year. And yes, Kansas is without five-star freshman, Billy Preston, who is handling some eligibility issues off the court.

But Washington only had a 3.2 percent chance at winning, marking the biggest BPI upset of the season. If you’re a Kansas fan, that loss doesn’t sit well with you.

Stealing a win against the Jayhawks at the Sprint Center could be a program-changing win for Hopkins and the Huskies. Washington has mostly beat up on mid-majors to start the season, with its best win coming against Belmont. Washington lost by seven to Providence and 24 to Virginia Tech in their two major tests this season.

Junior wing Matisse Thybulle led thw way for Washington with 19 points.

But Florida lost on Wednesday, too

The No. 5 Gators lost by six to the unranked Loyola Ramblers, too, signaling yet another top team to fall this week. The Ramblers are now 9-1, but their win against Florida was their first-ever road win against a top-five team.

In fact, Loyola’s last win against a top-five team was all the way back in 1984, according to ESPN Stats & Info, and the Ramblers had lost 29 of their last 31 matchups against AP ranked opponents.

This is the third straight loss for the Gators, who blew a huge lead against Duke in the title game of the PK80 and then lost to rival Florida State on Monday. It’s a week UF would like to forget.

No top team is safe

The Jayhawks and Gators both went down on Wednesday night, and even though Kansas doesn’t have Preston on the floor, it shouldn’t have lost to the Huskies.

Or maybe it should have.

These two huge upsets could be a wake-up call to the rest of college basketball. You’re not just gonna waltz into the AP top 5 and snooze your way into a top seed. You’ve got to fight to hold onto that ranking.

And if both the Jayhawks and the Gators forgot that, they were issued a sizable reminder in the form of big Ls on Wednesday night.
