Pitchers and catchers reported this week! It’s a fun time to be a baseball fan. Except when one of your pitchers reported that he broke a rib falling through the roof on his barn.
Royals pitcher injured after falling through barn roof
Ugh, not this story again.

The lefty was expected to compete for a setup job after a strong showing last season, but he fell through the roof of his barn. Just like Steve Carlton that one time. Probably.
According to these Royals fans, it might not the oddest injury in team history. Their stories check out. From the AP in 1998:
Kevin Appier, 104-78 with a 3.30 ERA lifetime, has been on the disabled list just once in his career. He had offseason surgery after hurting his shoulder in a fall on the porch steps of his home while carrying gifts from his sister’s baby shower.
And from UPI in 1983:
Pastornicky was hitting .268 at Omaha when he was summoned to replace Brett on the 25-man roster after the All-Star third baseman had suffered a broken toe while doing laundry at home.
I’ll rank them like this:
- Carrying baby shower gifts
- Falling through roof of a barn
- Attacked by an appliance because you want to watch Bill Buckner hit
More updates as events warrant.
