A surreal moment happened after the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, when DeMarcus Cousins appeared to be told about his potential trade to the New Orleans Pelicans seconds before addressing the media.
Did DeMarcus Cousins find out he was traded in this press conference video?
Cousins was told something moments before speaking to the media.
The person who leans in to tell him is Chris Clark, who is Kings PR. At this moment, rumors were circulating but Cousins’ trade to the Pelicans had not been officially reported. It’s possible Clark had advanced information that the Kings front office was planning to make that trade, and told Boogie definitively that it was happening. More likely, he just told Cousins about the rumors.
“I love it here in New Orleans,” Cousins said with a coy smile, seeming to hint that Clark had at least told him something about his looming trade to the Pelicans. (Obviously, we don’t know for sure what Clark said.)
A few questions later, though, Cousins said “give me a break” when asked about trade rumors, says he hadn’t heard from the Kings front office and answers a question about a potential trade to Pelicans with, “If that’s what happens, it happens.”
It was later reported Cousins found out at the airport.
That, of course, led to an awkward moment for Cousins and his manager.
Cousins, his family, his manager Andrew Rogers, and Clark, the Kings PR man, all ended up flying back to Sacramento in a private plane, per Marc Spears. But it won’t be long until Cousins is taking a plane right back to New Orleans.
