Canadiens acquire Jordie Benn from the Dallas Stars for Greg Pateryn
Say goodbye to the Benn Brothers.

The Stars traded defenseman Jordie Benn to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday, splitting up one of the NHL’s only brother tandems. Defenseman Greg Pateryn and a 2017 fourth round pick are heading back to Dallas.
Jordie is the older brother of Stars captain Jamie Benn and has two years left on his contract. Pateryn, 28, has one more year on his contract after this season.
Benn, 29, was signed by the Stars as an unrestricted free agent in 2009. He worked his way into a steady NHL role almost immediately, becoming a mainstay on Dallas’ blueline as a depth defenseman with some offensive upside. Like most of Dallas’ defensemen, he has struggled in his own end at times. Benn has two goals and 15 points this season.
Pateryn was drafted by Toronto in the 2008 draft and traded soon after to the Canadiens for Mikhail Grabovski. He’s appeared in 58 NHL games and hit the trade block recently after spending most of the year in the AHL.
