Sergio Romo may or may not be signing with the Dodgers
Saturday’s Say Hey Baseball takes a look at Sergio Romo possibly going from one side of the Giants-Dodgers rivalry to another. Plus, a look at Tom Brady’s illustrious career as an Expo.

* * *
We are only a few days away from pitchers and catchers reporting to camp (and not a day too soon!), so we’re starting to see some big names come off the table when it comes to the free-agent market. That may or may not be the case for Sergio Romo, who has been closely linked to the Dodgers this week. And there are even reports that he has signed with Los Angeles. This might be a little weird for fans on both sides of the storied Dodgers/Giants rivalry, but it may not be time to conjure up those odd mental images of Romo wearing Dodger blue just yet.
That’s because those reports may have been premature. According to baseball insider Jon Heyman, Sergio Romo hasn't put ink to paper just yet. In fact, everybody's second favorite team is in the running to sign Romo. Of course, I'm talking about the infamous "Mystery Team." Heyman did note that the mystery team won't be the Mets, who have recently made an addition to their bullpen and are working with a pretty tight budget at the moment.
It’s a pretty safe bet that Giants fans are hoping that the mystery team can complete the swoop-in and pick up Sergio Romo, because it will surely be awkward to see such a vital cog from their days of “Even Year Voodoo” going straight to the Dodgers in free agency. However, the move makes sense for both parties. Los Angeles is in need of a reliever who fits Romo’s profile, and Romo grew up a Dodgers fan and will probably enjoy having a chance to play for his childhood favorites. It seems like this is going to happen, but we’ll have to stay tuned to see if the mystery team can throw a wrench in these plans.
- Remember when the legendary Tom Brady led the Montreal Expos to multiple World Series championships? Grant Brisbee remembers.
- A handful of teams have brand-new hats for spring training this year, and in my opinion, the Mariners’ new hat is the best of the bunch.
- The reason why the Mets aren’t involved in the Sergio Romo sweepstakes anymore is because they’re bringing back Jerry Blevins.
- While they were at it, they also brought back Fernando Salas.
- Meanwhile, teams are showing interest in potentially taking Juan Lagares off of the Mets’ hands via trade.
- The Yankees had one of the most difficult schedules in baseball in 2016. But 2017 may end up being a lot easier for them, though.
- The Rays made a bit of a surprise move by bringing back Logan Morrison on a one-year deal.
- The Cardinals signed Carlos Martinez to a contract extension. There’s no way there’s a downside to that, right? We may be wrong.
- In what has to be a recurring theme ever since he took on the position, Commissioner Manfred is looking at ways to pick up the pace of play.
- So who would win among the best remaining free agents and the (as currently constructed) San Diego Padres?
