Veteran cornerback Brandon Carr has found a new home, signing what could amount to a four-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, the team announced Thursday.

It’s technically a one-year deal for Carr, according to Adam Schefter, with options that could push it to a four-year, $24 million deal. The contract is likely to wrap up at two years, $12 million, per Schefter.
Carr, who turns 31 in May, is a steady player at the cornerback position who has been one of the more reliable players at his position for quite some time. The nine-year NFL veteran has totaled 15 career interceptions along with 110 total pass defenses and two defensive touchdowns.
But with only one interception over the past three seasons and a cap-starved Dallas Cowboys team, it seemed unlikely the cornerback would re-sign in the Big D. The Cowboys have spent a ton of cap space in retaining one of the league’s most dominant offenses, locking up guys like Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick to lucrative salaries to keep the team’s notoriously dominant offensive line together.
The Cowboys also lost cornerback Morris Claiborne, who is signing with the New York Jets, in free agency.
While Carr’s production doesn’t stand out in the box score, he’s still a solid player. Carr hasn’t missed a game in his entire career, and he’s versatile enough to play all over the field. Playing on the right and left sides, as well as occasionally in the slot, Carr has managed to effectively match up with some of the NFL’s best wide receivers throughout his career, helping his teams win games.
Revamping the secondary has been a focus for the Ravens during this free agency period. The team added Tony Jefferson from the Arizona Cardinals, and he’ll start at strong safety opposite Eric Weddle. The team was still in the market for a veteran defensive back, and it got one in Carr.
