Duke came into the season with all the promise, all the talent, and all the expectations. With an exit out of the NCAA tournament on the first weekend of the dance, the Blue Devils have fallen short of the mark.

That was unexpected.


The No. 7 South Carolina Gamecocks beat No. 2 Duke, 88-81, and the Gamecocks will go to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
With a torrid shooting pace throughout the second half, the Gamecocks blitzed Duke in what sounded like a home game in Greenville, largely because it pretty much was.
The irony of the situation of course being that this subregional was supposed to be held in Duke’s home state of North Carolina, but was moved due to the state passing an anti-LGBTQ law.
You want to talk about chaos? Welcome to the wide open East Region. No. 3 Baylor and No. 4 Florida could be prognosticated here fairly easily. No. 7 South Carolina and No. 8 Wisconsin beating Duke and Villanova, respectively, was not exactly on many people’s brackets.
New York City gets two interesting matchups next weekend with Florida-Wisconsin opposite Baylor-South Carolina for the right to go to the Elite Eight.
