There’s trouble with the NBA’s DNP-Rest trend
This week’s Drive & Kick podcast dives into the league’s annoying TV problem.

The Cleveland Cavaliers rested LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love for the primetime national television game against the Los Angeles Clippers and everyone got mad. There’s never a good time to rest players, everyone agrees that the season is too long, and everyone agrees that the season isn’t getting shortened. So ... where do we go from here?
We get into that in this week’s Drive & Kick podcast, with some quality Wolves talk and press box eating habits. Also on the pod (apologies in advance for the coughing fits and the garbage trucks):
- This is really about national television and the billions of dollars the networks pay to the league. Maybe the league should protect those dates by not scheduling back-to-backs around them.
- On the other hand, there are a lot of national TV games. Where do you draw the line?
- There actually is a rule in place that is supposed to provide transparency on the issue of rest. Teams brought a lot of this on themselves by stretching the limits.
- The Minnesota Timberwolves are starting to play well, or were before Flanns went and wrote about them. What do they do with Zach LaVine?
- Gonz reveals all of his love for Ricky Rubio.
- We give you the skinny on press box snacks. Spoiler: Flanns brings his own.
