Cornerback Fabian Moreau tried to improve his bench press numbers at the UCLA pro day, but will instead begin the process of recovery from surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle.
NFL draft prospect Fabian Moreau suffers torn pectoral at UCLA pro day
UCLA cornerback Fabian Moreau is a possible first-round pick, but will begin recovery from surgery.

Moreau told NFL Network’s Omar Ruiz shortly after suffering the injury that it was just a strain, and UCLA coach Jim L. Mora also downplayed the significance. However, Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com reports that Moreau required surgery Wednesday night to repair the torn muscle.
Recovery from the injury is expected to take 4-6 months, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, and Moreau hopes to be back in time for training camp. After suffering the injury Tuesday, Moreau sat out the remainder of the pro day workout, but Mora said it wasn’t crucial for the cornerback anyway.
“His numbers were good enough at the combine that for him to come out here and work out today isn’t that important,” Mora said. “And all these teams that are really interested in him will be back to see him in an individual workout as well. So anything that happened to him I believe is minor and nothing to worry about.”
The injury was more significant than that, but is still unlikely to tank the cornerback’s stock. Pectoral injuries rarely have a long-term effect on a player’s abilities, and unlike Washington’s Sidney Jones, Moreau’s 2017 season is unlikely to be in jeopardy.
Moreau is considered a fringe first-round prospect and is the No. 5 cornerback in the draft class, according to NFL Network’s Mike Mayock.
